We tried to make a fire, but it was too wet. We tried for such a long time, but the most we got was a thick smoke. - quote from Gräe’s blog post Start by asking: What do I want to do? and What would I like to know more about? Then: Who can I learn it with? and What resources will help me gain this knowledge? After that: How can I explain and show what I know? Continue: What’s next? and Now what? In the last six weeks we have written learning plans for 42 different projects, made connections with at least 16 new mentors, and created about 59 blog posts to document what’s been going on. Phew. It’s going. It’s going like this: the advisor team is pushing the car while the student inside the vehicle builds the motor that will keep them going once the big push is over. It’s not over, we’re still pushing. But we are getting closer to being motorized, solo drivers. Truly some of them have already been flying the plane for a few weeks. Year two and three people in particular. This work takes practice. What skills have you been practicing? ^^ Izzy trying a new drawing practice. Look mom, both hands! We’ve been digging in and in just a couple more weeks we will pause and look at what’s been happening so far at Quarter 1 exhibitions. These are shorter presentations with a smaller audience, usually just me (the advisor), parents/guardians, and perhaps a mentor or TA. We attempt to schedule these 30 minute exhibitions during the student’s regular weekly meeting time. The tentative schedule looks like this, students will be reaching out to confirm with parents and other supports to make sure they can make this time. It’s essential that parents attend this exhibition (and the others too really). If this time does not work for you please let us know so we can reschedule.
My friend Joseph is a painter, you can always trust a painter when they talk about color. He says that the blue of the sky is special in October. I just realized the other day that the blue might not even change, it could really just be that there is a stronger contrast between the sky and the ground with all the orange in the leaves. The colors have been amazing this year. Enjoy what we've got left of it. Enjoy this time you've been given to explore your interests and gain a better understanding of who you are. That's what's happening. Can you feel it? Be well, amyK
